Albert Montanes won't come to St. Petersburg

The Spanish tennis player Albert Montanes, 68th in the ATP rating canceled his participation in the St. Petersburg Open due to the back trauma.

For the same reason Roger Federer won't be playing in his home town Basel from the 24 to 30 October.

Safin will prepare for Shanghai in St. Petersburg

Marat Safin has become the third tennis player after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal who earned the right to play at the Tennis Masters Cup 2005. Only 8 best tennis players of the Planet can qualify for the Masters Cup that will take place 13 — 20 November in Shanghai, China. Last year in the final tournament in Huston, Safin lost in semi-finals to Roger Federer.

St. Petersburg Open Company is not only the organizer of St. Petersburg Open Tournament, but also an official distributor in Russia of tennis tours to Shanghai. The package includes tickets to all days of the Masters Cup Championship.

Marat Safin will play at St. Petersburg Open before going to China.

The auction items are now on display at www.TennisKatrina.com and can be accessed directly or via the official sites ATPtennis.com and WTATour.com. Among the items you will find even James Blake′s shoes from his epic match against Andre Agassi in the US Open 2005. Currently, those are going for close to $3 000.

Marat Safin is out of the Game

Marat Safin was forced to miss the US Open starting Monday due to the knee trauma.
However, the Russian tennis team leader plans taking part at Davis Cup against the Croatian team at the end of September. Also Safin confirmed his intention while in Russia to play both in the Kremlin Cup and St. Petersburg Open.
World No. 1 Roger Federer from Switzerland during the St. Petersburg Open week will play in the home tournament in Basel.

The Arena Design Will Not Change

The design of arena that will host XI International Tennis Tournament ATP St. Petersburg Open 2005 will be approved before September 1. According to Mikhail Rudnik, president of the St. Petersburg Open Company, compared to the previous year there won't be much changes in the design. Location of three courts both for singles and doubles will also stay the same.
Tournament ticket program will be announced before the beginning of fall.

Bryans, Bjorkman & Mirnyi Qualify for Shanghai
- Teams are the first to book Tennis Masters Cup Doubles Slots

Sydney, Australia - American twins Bob and Mike Bryan and first-year partners Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi are the first teams to qualify for Tennis Masters Cup Doubles, which will be played concurrently with the singles circuit finale in Shanghai, China, from November 13-20. The teams continue their battle for the yearend No. 1 ranking this week at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, where they are seeded first and second respectively.

Federer's No. 1 Reign Now 7th Longest in History

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, U.S.A. - Roger Federer today becomes the seventh-longest reigning World No.1 in ATP Rankings history (since 1973), surpassing the 80 weeks that Lleyton Hewitt spent atop the INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking. Hewitt held the ATP circuit's top spot for all but two weeks from November 2001 through June 2003.
Federer, who rose to No. 1 on February 2, 2004, today begins his 81st week at No. 1 the same day he returns to the ATP circuit for the first time since his Wimbledon triumph in July. He plays James Blake tonight in the featured evening match at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, broadcast on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. E.D.T.
